Bilicki Ready for New Experience at Bristol Dirt Race

Mooresville, NC (3/25/21) - Josh Bilicki is set for a new experience this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, as the NASCAR Cup Series will race on dirt for the first time in over fifty years.  Come Friday, Bilicki will turn his first ever laps driving on dirt during the NASCAR Cup Series’ first practice session.  The “unknown” feeling is not new to Bilicki, though.  Having a background in road course racing, Bilicki turned his first ever laps on an oval at Phoenix Raceway in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2016, which was something completely new for him.

“In Phoenix, I remember feeling like I was being thrown in the deep end of the pool without knowing exactly how to swim”, says Bilicki.  “We didn’t practice much because we were on a budget, but we made the race and ran all of the laps and I learned a lot that weekend.  This weekend’s race at Bristol reminds me of that, except I’m not sure that any driver in the field knows what to expect.  The guys who came from dirt racing will definitely have an advantage, but these cars will not drive like a dirt car, so there are a lot of question marks.  As a driver, it excites me but I also know there are lots of consequences for our small team if I make a mistake.  Our goal for the weekend is to bring the car back as clean as we can and be there at the end.  It will most likely be a chaotic race, so I’m sure the fans and sponsors will love it.”
