Thomasville, N.C. – Officials from Rick Ware Racing announced today that Richfield, WI native, Josh Bilicki, will compete in this weekend’s NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire, driving the number 51 Prevagen Chevrolet SS. Fresh off his NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series debut at Sonoma Raceway nearly three weeks ago, Bilicki has this to say about this weekend. “I’m very excited and thankful to get the call from Rick to race this weekend’s NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series race at New Hampshire. While I’ve never been to the track, I’ve watched hours of onboard videos and have logged hundreds of laps on iRacing. The track seems flat, so I think I will be able to relate a lot of techniques I learned in my road course racing days to conquer this one-mile oval. I also feel more comfortable with driving these cars and I’m confident that Rick will guide me through the weekend so we get a respectable result!” Unlike most of his competitors in NASCAR, Bilicki hales from road course racing. Having experience in IMSA, Trans-Am Series, and NASA Pro Racing, he is making the transition to stock cars and hope to find a career in NASCAR. Team principal, Rick Ware, said Bilicki’s focus and attention to details in his transition to NASCAR has paid off with the chance to race for the team. “I’ve been around a lot of road course drivers and you either have it or you don’t,” Ware said. “He does. I’ve been fortunate enough to watch Josh compete on occasion and I think he’s going to impress people with not only his patience, but his car control and for getting an extra position or two from a performance standpoint.” Bilicki and Rick Ware Racing would like to welcome two new marketing partners to the team for the New Hampshire race weekend, Prevagen and CNC Swiss Inc. Prevagen, a brain health support supplement, is clinically shown to help with mild memory problems associated with Aging. Prevagen is safe and uniquely supports brain function. Richfield, WI - Josh Bilicki and Rick Ware Racing accomplished their goals of finishing Josh's first NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway in California. However, it did not come without a challenge.
After a total of only 32 laps in both practices, Bilicki out-qualified many NASCAR regulars. Starting the race in 33rd, he quickly showed that he compete with the best stockcar drivers in the world by making several passes and moving up the field. By the end of stage one, Bilicki and the number 51 team found themselves inside of the top twenty. Josh stayed out while most teams ahead pit during the caution, moving them to seventh. Once the green flag dropped for segment two, Bilicki and several cars ahead of him who also did not pit were sitting ducks to the cars behind with fresh tires. Once the field sorted out and Josh stopped for fuel and tires, he found himself in 32nd position, right behind road course veteran, Borid Said. The two drivers battled for several laps until the end of segment two. Both drivers finished within the top twenty. The third segment of the race would be the longest at sixty laps. Josh pit for fuel and tires and restarted in 29th position. After battling with Landon Cassill and Ty Dillon, Bilicki's Chevrolet SS began to over heat and Josh was forced to bring the car into the pits. The car would have to be pushed behind the wall to cool the engine. After several minutes and about six laps lost, Bilicki was able to get back on the race track to finish the remaining ten laps. Bilicki finished 36th. "My first NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series race weekend was amazing," says Bilicki. "The results may not have shown, but we showed good speed throughout the race, especially when we were on good tires. The Rick Ware Racing crew did a great job of preparing my Marriott Construction Companies of Milwaukee / Climate FieldView Chevrolet. I hope to be back in this series very soon!" Bilicki wasted no time getting familiar with the team, MBM Motorsports, and the track. Starting the race 33rd, Bilicki quickly moved inside of the top thirty in the opening laps. He worked his way to 23rd position near the end of the first segment, but an issue during a pit-stop moved him back to 30th. Bilicki narrowly avoided a wreck during the opening part of segment two. After battling with the number 78 BJ McLeod Racing Chevrolet, Bilicki ended segment two in 29th position. After starting segment three in 31st position, Josh quickly worked his way up to 25th position. After a late race caution, Bilicki fell back a few positions in the pits and ended the race in 27th.
"I think it was definitely a successful weekend," says Josh. "It was my first time working with the guys at MBM Motorsports and also my first time on a two-mile oval. I've raced Spec Miata here (Michigan International Speedway) but that was on the infield road course circuit, so this is a completely new experience. We showed we could be competitive and if it weren't for the pit-stop issues, I believe a 21st or 22nd place finish was within reach. A special thank you to CNC Swiss Inc for coming onboard this weekend as a primary sponsor and also to Sons of Speed and Main Street Real Estate Group for coming on as associate sponsors."
