(Richfield,WI) Josh Bilicki scored his career best finish in NASCAR this weekend at the Johnsonville 180 at his home track, Road America. Bilicki drove the No. 8 Xtreme Xperience / Prevagen / BrookLink.org B.J. McLeod Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro to a 12th place finish after starting in the 33rd position.
The weekend started out strong for the No. 8 team as they finished practice in 20th position. Unfortunately, for Josh, Sunday morning's qualifying session was canceled due to weather and the entire field would start by car owner points. Josh would start the race in 33rd position. Bilicki and his No. 8 B.J. McLeod Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro wasted no time in the early portion of the 45 lap race, as Josh began to gain positions quickly. Josh reported that the car was very tight in the opening laps, so the team made the decision to pit during a caution and make an adjustment to the car. After the pit stop, Bilicki finished segment one in 31st position. Segment two would take the field to lap 20. Josh knew he was quicker than the cars ahead of him, so he patiently worked his way through the field. The adjustments made during the first pit stop were very helpful, as Josh began to turn lap times almost as quick as the leaders. He finished segment two in 20th position. Segment three would take the field to the end of the race. On lap 28, rain began to fall on the back side of the race track. Bilicki knew this would be to his advantage, having raced sportscars at this track in the rain. The rain only lasted for a few minutes, but Bilicki gained three positions. The B.J. McLeod Motorsports team brought Josh in for his final pit stop, fuel only, on lap 32 under green flag conditions. After pit stops cycled out, Bilicki found himself in the 16th position. He radioed to the team and said that the car was the best it's been all day, as he continued to pick cars ahead of him off. Bilicki would finish the 45 lap race in 12th position, posting his best career finish in NASCAR competition. "I couldn't be any happier with a 12th place finish," says Bilicki." This entire B.J. McLeod Motorsports team busted their butts after Mid-Ohio and it definitely payed off. We have had our share of bad luck these past few weeks, so it's nice to finally show what we are capable of. It means a lot to me to have a finish like this at my home track, in front of family, friends, and sponsors. We are going to be celebrating this one for a while! (Richfield, WI) Josh Bilicki will be back with B.J. McLeod Motorsports at this weekend’s Johnsonville 180 NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Road America. The Richfield, WI native will be racing in front of his hometown crowd, as he lives only 50 minutes from the track. Bilicki will bring Xtreme Xperience, an exotic car rental company, as a primary sponsor for the race weekend.
Bilicki made his NASCAR debut at this race in 2016. Since then, he has a handful of starts of the NASCAR XFINITY Series, as well as two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races. Josh is coming off a strong run with B.J. McLeod Motorsports at both Watkins Glen and Mid-Ohio, however, he did not score the finish he would have liked in either races. “We’ve been fast these last couple of weeks,” says Josh. “I made mistakes at Watkins Glen that cost us a top-twenty and we were involved in a late-race wreck at Mid-Ohio, which ended our day. I’m hoping that we can put this bad luck behind us going into my home race at Road America. We will have a lot of family, friends, and sponsors at this race so it’s important to have a good showing.” Bilicki will be representing several local companies on his No. 8 Xtreme Xperience, B.J. McLeod Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro. Prevagen, a dietary supplement that improves memory loss, will be an associate sponsor on the car. BrookLink.org, a Christian Ministry located in Germantown, WI, will also be an associate sponsor. We have a lot of local companies on the car this weekend, and it means a lot to me to see everyone’s support. I can’t wait to get on track on Saturday for the first time and see my hometown fans packed around the four miles track!” This weekend’s Johnsonville 180 NASCAR XFINITY Series race will be televised live on NBCSN on Sunday, August 27th at 3:00 PM ET. Both practices and qualifying will also be televised live on NBCSN. McLeod Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro headed to Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course in Lexington, Ohio, for the second of three road courses in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. After both practices were canceled on Friday due to thunderstorms, NASCAR gave the series one practice session early Saturday morning. The 45 minute session was cut short due to several cars going off track and causing two red flags, giving Josh only two clean laps. Qualifying proved to be chaotic, as traffic played a major factor in the short session. Of Bilicki's three qualifying laps, two were cut short due to traffic. Bilicki and his No. 8 Prevagen / BrookLink.org Camaro qualified 22nd, giving the team their best qualifying effort of the year.
The 75 lap NASCAR Xfinity Series race proved to be a challenge for most teams. In the past years, the race had many accidents and red flags. Bilicki and the B.J. McLeod Motorsports team knew that getting to the end of the race was the most important task. However, this year's race would prove to be chaotic, similar to the years in the past. On lap two, several cars slid off track and caused a full course yellow. At the time, Bilicki sat 23rd. After the restart, Josh put his road course racing skills to work, passing several cars and moving inside of the top 20. Bilicki fought hard and finished stage one in the 10th position. Shortly after the start of stage two, Bilicki's No. 8 Prevagen / BrookLink.org Camaro began experiencing a fuel pick-up issue, causing Josh to lose many positions. With green flag conditions, Bilicki would have to tough it out until a full course yellow was displayed. Unfortunately for Josh, the next full course yellow would not come until the end of segment two. Josh pitted and the team quickly began to diagnose the fuel pick-up issue. With the entire B.J. McLeod crew working together, the issue was found and resolved. Josh rejoined the field and started segment three in 31st position. By lap 64, Bilicki was up to 21st position. With just eight laps to go, while running in the 20th position, Bilicki and his No. 8 Prevagen / BrookLink.org Chevrolet were involved in a heavy accident in turn one on a restart, causing major damage to the front of the car. It was deemed that the car could not finish the race. Bilicki finished 29th. "It's definitely a disappointing end to what could have been a really good day," says Josh. "We started out really strong and finished segment one in the 10th position. We developed a fuel pick-up issue later in the race, but fought hard and fixed the problem. We rebounded and were running around 20th when the accident happened." When asked about the accident that ended their race, Bilicki says this. "It's really unfortunate and sucks for the team. I was behind Blake Koch in the number 11 car on that restart. This track is so tight and it's very tough to see through the car ahead of you here. He quickly veered to the right at the exit of the corner, and all I saw then was smoke and then I made heavy contact with the 28 car. We broke a tie-rod end and several other suspension components, which ended our race. I think we would have had a pretty solid 15th place finish, but racing is unpredictable and unfortunately today it didn't work out for us. I'm confident in this team and know that we will be back and stronger than ever for Road America in two weeks." The weekend started out well for the BM McLeod Motorsports team, with Josh finishing practice in the 26th position. He would go on to qualify in the 28th position, right behind Jr. Motorsport's Driver Michael Annett. The 82 lap race would prove to be a bit of a challenge for Josh and the No. 8 Prevagen / BrookLink.org, however. Josh was given a drive through penalty on lap one for moving out of line before the start-finish line during the race start. After serving the penalty, Bilicki would have to play a game of catch up and gain his lost positions back. Fortunately, for the number eight team, an early caution came out and Josh would catch the tail end of the field for the race restart. After the restart, Bilicki soon found himself back inside of the top thirty. Josh finished stage one in 29th position. Bilicki would show his road course racing skills in the beginning of segment two, passing several more drivers and working his way into the low twenties. Bilicki and his No.8 Prevagen / BrookLink.org Chevrolet Camaro finished segment two in 22nd position. Segment three would last from lap 41 to 82, ending the race. Bilicki knew he was faster than the cars ahead of him, but also knew that the other competitors would be fierce in the last half of the race. After another great restart, Bilicki found himself in the top twenty. By lap 55, he had worked his way to 16th position. While running in the 16th position, Josh would pit for fuel on lap 60. This fuel stop would take Bilicki and his No.8 Prevagen / BrookLink.org Chevrolet Camaro to the end of his race. While entering his pits, Bilicki drove through too many pit stalls and received another drive through penalty. He would serve this drive through penalty during green flag conditions, causing him to drop all the way back to 30th position and go one lap down to the race leaders. Bilicki would do all he could to gain the lost positions back, but contact a few laps later between Josh and the No. 19 of Matt Tift would cause Josh to spin and lose even more track time. A late race caution helped Josh and his No. 8 Prevagen / BrookLink.org Camaro catch back up to the field. Although Bilicki was one lap down, he passed several cars on the restart that were also one lap down and picked up two positions. Josh finished the 82 lap race in 28th position. "Overall I think this was a very positive weekend for us," says Bilicki. "We showed that we could compete with the top teams and drivers, but mistakes on my end shuffled us to the back of the field in the closing half of the race. The guys at B.J. McLeod Motorsports gave me a really fast Prevagen / BrookLink.org Chevrolet, so I feel terrible that I made so many mistakes on pit road. We will regroup, I'll fix my mistakes, and we look forward to next weekend's race at one of my favorite tracks, Mid-Ohio." Bilicki, nearly one month after his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series debut at Sonoma Raceway, will drive the number eight B.J. McLeod Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro at Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Road America.
“I’m excited and very thankful for this opportunity,” says Josh, who unlike most of his NASCAR competitors comes from a road course racing background. “I certainly have much more road course experience than I do oval experience, so I feel like this will be more of an equal playing field between myself and my competitors. B.J. has very good road course equipment so I’m looking forward to a competitive race!” Josh Bilicki and B.J. Racing is not what it used to be, where if you’re a good driver you will make it far. Now you not only have to be a good driver, you also have to be marketable and bring sponsors onboard. I’ve been very fortunate to have sponsors such as Prevagen and BrookLink supporting me. Without businesses like these, I certainly would not be where I am today. Prevagen was my primary sponsor in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, so this is their second NASCAR race. This will be BrookLink’s first NASCAR race, so it’s certainly cool to bring new companies into the sport,” says Josh. Sponsors for Road America will be announced at a later date.
